Buying photography is different than buying a photograph from a
print shop. This difference becomes clear when one considers
the following points.
- When buying a photographic print from Costco, Wall-mart, or
even a professional shop like F-11 Photography in Bozeman, one is paying for
the printing of an image. The customer must supply the
image.
- When buying photography (or someone else's image) you are
paying for both the printing and the cost of getting the image.
- The cost of getting the image includes
- the camera equipment
- the time and any risk involved
- and the developed experience, skill, and artistry of the
photographer
- Often the quality of the professional photographer's image
is superior to an amateur's image -- but not all the time.
An amateur can, and does, get a great image now and then.
A professional, however, makes a living on a reputation which
assures his customers that great images will be achieved.
- Professional images are edited -- to meet the requirements of
the customer -- with multiple sophisticated and expensive software
packages. Often customers are happy with an image, but
then are thrilled with it after they see the editing that a
professional offers.
- Professional photographers use professional grade printing
services which sometimes cost a little more (not much usually)
but assure a quality image every time.
We hope that explains why buying photography is different than
buying just a print. Enjoy the images and please send us your
comments.
Thanks, and take care,
